Jim Steranko bio

Jim Steranko (1938-) Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Steranko an escape artist, stage magician, advertising art director and guitarist for a rock n' roll band before delving into comics. His first published work appeared in Spyman #1, but soon afterwards began drawing Nicky Fury in Marvel's Strange Tales. It was in the late 1960s when he began to incorporate pop art, op art, futurism and surrealism into his work. I found his drawings dynamic, but his page layouts and sequencing were  stunning. Nick FuryCaptain America and the X-men all benefited from his contemporary, innovative style. For the first time since perhaps Will Eisner, the design of comics was as important as the illustrations. >more on wikipedia
